Mandela: A Leader With Distinction!

The news of our most revered statesman's passing on to glory which was reported by the vast majority of international and local media outlets on the 5th of december 2013 has left endless tears cascading down the eyes of all and sundry in the whole universe. A barrage of tributes have been sent to his family via social media owing to his giant leadership strides. Mandela was a perfect paradigm of a selfless leader who layed down his life for his people. He was a political bulwark against oppression. He took upon himself a task which was daunting - sacrificing to slave way in prison for the protection of the sanctity and dignity of his people. He earned an unparalelled reputation - both nationally and internationally - owing to his unflinching determination and tenacity of purpose which stands him out as a leader with a distinction. Madiba, as he was fondly called, is one leader we should strive to emulate in times of strife, political upheaval, rancour and acrimony. He was assertive of his demand for self-determination and was never cowed by racism or intimidated by acutely cynical fellows. He surmounted all odds and encumberances to demonstrate his unwavering agitation for justice, equity, fairness, freedom and peaceful coexistence Personally, his ascendency to presidency was a kind of divine arrangement, having spent 27 horrible years in prison. We do have innumerable men who like him were incarcerated but could not return alive. This is an apparent testament to the aphorism that destiny can only be delayed but not denied. We shall greatly miss him, his rivers of wisdom, his fatherly advice, his lovely smiles, his virtues, for he has inculcated in us a firm and profound believe that we all are of one Father(God), therefore deserve to be treated with equality regardless of our social and economic differences. Mandela, like Paul did declare in 2nd timothy 4:6-8 , has fought the good fight of faith; he has finished the race and has kept the faith. The diadem which God has promised to only those who look foward to his return, rests on his head. Though dead, he still lives on in our mind and so are his memories. His journey from the cradle to the grave, the mountain of encomium showered upon him, leave behind great lessons to be imbibed. The lesson? The need to leave a virtuous life; preach peace, tolerance and forgiveness, so that even when we're gone, we'd be greatly memorialized. He has played his part by making use of his time, talent, and wealth in ameliorating the travails of South Africans, and salvaging them from their crippling gripe of Apartheid. It's now my turn, your turn, our turn to use every possesssion, time and talent in paying obeisance to God and waring against injustice, against disparity, against resentment and against flagrant disregard of human rights. Mandela is gone, but his legacy glows! May his soul rest in peace, Amen!

With the prevalent political impasse and upsurge in felonious crime perpetrated within the country and outside the world today, one need not be told of christ's imminent return. How prepared(to you who treat God's word with sheer profanity and utter disdain)are you then towards incuring his never-ending retribution? It is not his desire however, that a single being which he in all splendour brought get to inherit the devil's abode which was specifically put in place for him and him alone. But such is the fate of anyone who would, for any reason, treat God's command irreverently. The road to heaven is narrow and requiring more of faith, determination, consistency, persistence in plying it. That, on the contrary, which leads to hell (an eternal teeth-gnashing commonwealth, place of torment, damnation) is wide and therefore accomodating. The nagging question then is: which do you subscrbe to? which do you utmostly yearn to tread on? which do you think is befitting to you who is an heir to God? That which is wide and accomodating? Or the former? These mind-boggling questions are worth your while - so plump for one. It's no use standing in the fence, you must make incisive choices today - choices that would shape your life here and thereafter. Indubitably, the aphorism that no sweet ever comes without sweat remains a verity. Hence, no triumph is ever attained without painstaking efforts. At what pedestal do you perched on? Have you so cheapened or rather belittled your integrity that the devil sniggers at you? It is worthy of note that a good number of so-called christians with their sheer bravado, vaingloriousness, kleptomatic urge et al., offer themselves to be used by devil at will. More than anything, we must not pander to the whims of the devil. While ascending this energy-sapping pinnacle, we must remain dogged and strong-willed. It behoves us to also(like Joshua in Joshua 24:15 affirmed thus "and if it seem evil to you to serve the lord, choose you this day who to serve wheather the gods your fathers did serve when they were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land ye dwell. But as for me and my family we will serve the lord)" Proclaim unflinchingly and with no ounce of phobia our admiration and unreserved believe in God. As I sum-up, I would appreciate it very well if you muse on these thought-provoking questions: What would have been of you if God had held back his one and only son from descending the earth in a human form to die in the most horrible way for the sake of you and I? what would have been of you still if Christ, a flawless being, had repulsed the onus of condescending to salvage you and I? Ruminate over these questions today for the betterment of your life and peaceful repose of your soul in heaven on the day of reckoning. Thank you. Remain foreverly rapturable.

Is All The Centenary Celebration Worth It?

At 100, Nigeria (a country endowed with a miasma of unexplored resources) still wallows in protracted crimes, ranging from extra-judicial killings, maiming, kidnapping and communal clashes. we wail in endless anguish for ourselves and our country. This country was bequeathed to us by our antecedents who were intrepid and fought valiantly for equity, fairness, and against dispossession and suppression with their God-given wisdom, leaving their footprints in the sands of time. Yet we affirm to have been salvaged from the gripe of imperialists(who with their insatiable hankering for exploitation) handed unrestrained power to us. Unarguably, we are no longer held captive by any imperialists. Now few questions which had for long begged answers are: do we really live in peace with one another like a people who no longer pander to the whims and caprices of the whites, despite our diversity in religion and ethnicity? Does love and tolerance which binds a people together still exist among us? A...

Tears of Agony

All were at ease Oblivious of what fate planned; Birds of the air were at peace, Trees of the hills were calm, Pedestrians walked with zest… The inhabitants were unaware Of the executioners penchant for homicide They laid their yearnings for regicide at rest. But heirs and co-heirs were like sacrificial lambs slain, Adorned houses were ravaged, Flames persisted, built castles in the air Graveyard silence pervaded the locality, And tears submerged the community. I sat and wept for posterity; For the ones yet unborn To face dangers looming ahead, For the executioners ignorance About the transience of life, …Muttering, God save my soul.
